How to ask for money for your wedding

You do not need a poem. A few honest lines will do: we are glad you are coming, here is our wish, and please feel free.

Start with what matters

Lead with celebrating together. Then briefly explain your wish and what a contribution would mean to you. Leave out minimum amounts: budgets differ, and a gift is not an entry ticket.

Short and warm

“Celebrating with you is the best gift we could ask for. If you would like to give something too, a contribution to our honeymoon would mean a lot to us.”

A little playful

“Our cupboards are full, but our travel plans are growing. If you would like to give us a gift, a little towards our next adventure would be lovely. Most of all, just bring yourselves!”

With a link to your list

“We are dreaming of a trip we will remember for years. Our gift list has a few plans you can contribute to, if you would like. There is no expectation. We are simply looking forward to celebrating together.”

Put the link below the message or with the practical details. Share it gently; guests who want to give will know where to look.

Frequently asked questions

Should we put an amount on the invitation?

It is kinder to leave the amount up to each guest. A short explanation of your wish is enough.

How do we link to an online gift list?

Add a short, recognisable link alongside your gift wording or practical details. Make clear that contributing is optional.

What if someone would rather give something else?

Thank them for thinking of you. Your list is a wish, not a requirement, and there is always room for a personal gift.
